In-depth on text drag-ability in OS X
Rob Griffiths, of Mac OS X Hints fame, has posted a really interesting look into OS X's text dragging capabilities over at Macworld. In case you didn't know: OS X has pretty wide support for highlighting a chunk of text and dragging it all over the place – to the desktop, into other applications, and more. Rob delves into what works where and how, and even explains some text-dragging behaviors between different types of OS X apps, such as Carbon, Cocoa, Java and Classic. One big tip that Rob explained is that many apps will accept text that is dragged onto their Dock icon. Mail, for example, will open a new message with the text in the body, while Stickies will create a new note with the text inserted. Check out Rob's full article at Macworld for the full deets on just what, where and how you can drag text in OS X.
