IPTV revenues to top $44b in 2009

IPTV is really just starting up and already the industry is all a-buzz about it. Infonetics Research is forecasting that the IPTV or Internet Protocol Television industry will generate $44 billion in revenues
by the year 2009. While there are several startups in IPTV, my take is that most of the revenue will be generated by the same names you hear today. Names like Verizon, Comcast, Time Warner, SBC and other current digital content providers.

There's a definite shift in the market that is preparing for this change and it's going on right now. Traditional cable companies, like Comcast, for example are trying to add non-traditional digital services to expand out of the saturated cable market. Comcast has offered cable broadband for some time, but now adds digital telephone service as well.

Then there's the old telephone companies like Verizon that have always offered a digital highway for your voice and data. Now that you're wired to their network, why not utilize the infrastructure and pipe broadband television to you as well? What's your take? Are you comfortable to receive your voice, data, television and even other content from a single big-name provider? Or do you prefer picking and choosing services from among multiple companies?
