Live: best way to download game trailers
Now that we've had a chance to play with the trailer-download service for the 360's Live Marketplace, we're willing to come out and say that the future of console e-distribution is here (though a timely patch could ease some of our concerns with the interface).
Rather than wade through ad after ad for free downloads just to gain ready access to a fast server (or skip the wait with paid subscription services), Microsoft has presented us with a free and unified means of grabbing trailers and demos—as long as you buy the system, of course. The content we didn't get on our original Xbox hard drives is finally arriving.
Of course, MS still has a few important things to work on:
-
The interface is lacking sort, search, and play functions directly from the download page.
-
How long will trailers and demos remain on the "All New Demos and Trailers" page? Will they always be
available? -
Will enough great content make its way to the Marketplace, and will enough low-cost bandwidth be made available
to smaller publisher/developers to hawk their digital wares on Live?
We expect updates to the Dashboard after launch in due time.
