Give back to the digital community: donate to the EFF

Here's the perfect gift for a file-sharing fan, blogger — or anyone who cares about civil rights in the digital world. You can donate to the Electronic Frontier Foundation in the name of someone on your gift list. The EFF has been working to protect the rights of the digital community for 15 years, and currently has several major initiatives, including projects to protect the civil rights of bloggers and to counteract the effects of pernicious DRM schemes like
Sony's rootkit. A student membership is just $15, while $100 gets your recipient into the "Pioneer" club. All membership packages over $65 come with "thank you" gifts — ranging from t-shirts to hats — so you'll have something to wrap. But even if you opt for a lower-value donation (or skip the premium to pass on all the funds directly to the EFF), both you and your recipient will ge that warm, fuzzy feeling that comes from helping bring the fight to those who would undermine digital rights.
