Michigan Comcast subscribers rejoice

There are not many days that I stand up and rejoice that I live in Michigan. Don't get me wrong, it is great here in the summer and fall, but from November through March it is just plain miserable. That changed today though when I learned that Comcast decided not to hike up their prices here. However, most of the country is going to experience a six percent rate increase, raising the national average to $47 for the preferred basic package.

The reason Comcast is not going to raise the rates in Michigan however, has to do with the amount of competition. The metro Detroit area has three other cable providers that do not plan on raising their rates. Plus, when you add in DirecTV and Dish Network, there is a good amount of cause for concern. Comcast always had a leg up on DirecTV, but now that DirecTV is offering local HD stations for less, Comcast does not have a leg to stand on.

Question: is your Comcast bill going up in your area?
