Anti-piracy lies make us go "Arrrrgh!"

Site UK Resistance noticed that the ELSPA (the Entertainment & Leisure Software Publishers Association) made up a few "facts" about piracy that might surprise our one-eyed readers with the parrots on their shoulders.

Among the more outrageous claims:

  • "Counterfeited/pirated games are often mixed with obscene or pornographic material." [If they're talking about
the games themselves, then this is true. That's why we're interested in them. But seriously, this is false. Change
"often" to "rarely" and it would be true.]

  • "Consumers have no recourse under law for faulty pirated games, which can damage hardware." [False again. Unless
of course they're alluding to the fact that lots of buggy games are released, some of which can really wreak havoc
    on a system's software.]

  • "Proven links exist between piracy and organised crime, including drugs and pornography." [Everything is linked
to porn. It's why the Internet was invented. Come on. How about citing some of that proof, Chester?]

Click on through for even more stupid hilarity. Developers should certainly be paid for their work, but the ELSPA is really reaching with these claims, undermining the anti-piracy fight rather than furthering it.
