Sony, Sun Tzu and Blu-Ray for $200, Alex

Apparently, we've all been missing the point on this HD-DVD and Blu-Ray war. This really has nothing to do with high-definition content; it's all about video games and "The Art of War" according to Warren Lieberfarb. If Lieberfarb's name sound familiar, you might remember him as the head honcho over at Warner Home Video.

Lieberfarb accuses Sony
of using "The Art of War" methods to garner success for the Blu-Ray format. He also indicates that Sony did the same with the Betamax, compact discs and the camcorder. Hey Warren, that Betamax thing didn't quite work out for them and neither did their abhorrence of .mp3's; but we'll let that slide.

I'm sensing some format-envy here, best summed up by these quotes: "The subplot here is that if I put Blu-Ray in PlayStation and I don't license it to Microsoft for Xbox and I get all the studios to publish in PlayStation, I'll beat Microsoft in the next generation games space. What we've been sucked into is PlayStation versus Xbox." Subplots? Video-games? Dude, we just want our high-definition DVDs!
