New York Times tackles K.K.'s piracy rant

K.K. Slider's message has reached beyond the realm of bloggers to The New York Times itself. K.K., Animal Crossing's resident canine hippie, sparked interest when it was discovered a few snippets of dialogue that may represent Nintendo's stance on the RIAA. The article takes a look at all sides of the comment, from Nintendo's rebuttal (Perrin Kaplan states that "no real social commentary was intended") to the director of the Future of Music Coalition ("If he's giving copies of his own music away, it's O.K.").

This little statement is probably just the result of a programmer with a sense of humor, trying to more flesh out K.K.'s character. However, it should be stressed that K.K. is only advocating the freedom of his own music, and may not be advocating that freedom as a universal business model.
Still, this dog has garnered quite a bit of free advertising controversy over his words.
