Xbox vs. Xbox 360: a battle of the launches
IGN decided to size up the launch of both Xbox consoles. The compare/contrast took place over several categories:
- Launch lineup: Xbox had 19 games, including Halo, with an average rating from IGN of 7.84 while Xbox 360 had 18 games with an average rating of 7.80.
-
Game vs. Game: Both systems launched with Madden, Tony Hawk,
Dead or Alive, and Project Gotham Racing. The only Halo equivalent was either Perfect Dark Zero or Call of Duty 2. - Online vs. Offline: The 360's online functionality clearly beats out the original Xbox's.
- Hardware and Controllers: Xbox hard drive had a bigger impact than 360's, while the 360's controller is indubitably better than the monster the Xbox shipped with.
The final conclusion is encouraging. They conclude the Xbox 360's launch to be the winner simply "because Microsoft actually pulled it off... The original Xbox may have had a few games that stand out more, but the system itself can't match the Xbox 360's features,
refinements and adaptability for the future." Hear hear!
