Nintendo DS hits 3 million connections, 500,000 users

According to Nintendo UK general manager David Yarnton, the Nintendo Worldwide Wi-Fi connection service has hit 3 million connections, which translates into around 500,000 actual users. A lot of the credit for this high adoption rate can no doubt be attributed to the successes of Mario Kart DS (a title which 45% of users went online with in the first week) and Animal Crossing: Wild World.

The announcement,
which took place at London's Science Museum, also included news of a 1000 extra Wi-Fi hotspots across Britain. With the long anticipated (Wi-Fi enabled) Metroid Prime Hunters just around the corner, the future is looking very bright for wireless gaming on Nintendo's flagship handheld.
