LG upgrades TV/DVR combo to 250GB, slashes prices

LG Electronics plans to make a big push into the DVR market by expanding its line of hard drive-equipped TVs, which debuted last year. Like the earlier models, the new TVs will include high-end plasma sets, but LG is expanding the number of models to be offered, raising the storage capacity and cutting prices. While last year's models, the 50-inch 50PY2DR and 60-inch 60PYDR, came with 160GB drives and cost, respectively, $7,999 and $14,999, the new sets will range in size from 37-50 inches (including several LCD models), will include 250GB drives, and will range in price from about $2,300 to $5,500, according to The Wall Street Journal and other sources. The new sets will also include memory card readers and will be HD-compatible. LG anticipates rolling out the new models in Korea first, and to begin selling them globally by the end of the year.
