Blizzard apologizes for GLBT offense; policies under review

It took some time, but someone finally superseded Leeroy Jenkins as the most popular player in the realm of World of Warcraft players–and all for a good cause, too. Sara "Shimmre"
Andrews, a girl warned by a Blizzard GM for advertising her guild as "GLBT friendly," finally received an apology from Thor Biafore, head of Blizzard customer service worldwide. Thor (wonder if he uses his real name when playing WOW – its a pretty phantasmagorical name) noted that "[the warning] was an unfortunate interpretation of our current policies, which are under review." Let's hope they come to a rewording soon.

Be sure to check out this open letter to Blizzard, posted on Many-to-Many and Terra Nova. Congratulations to Sara and her guild, Oz. It's sad that a civil rights issue had to be fought via an online game, but at least the worst looks to be over.
