Verizon first to hit FCC's 95 percent standard for E-911

It's been a long time coming, but Verizon Wireless has just announced that they've matched the FCC's 95 percent requirement of users with E-911 capable handsets, making them the first national carrier to complete a handset-based E-911 rollout. The actual deadline, through many delays, was set for December 31, 2005, but Verizon told the FCC it'd take them until about June to finish up. The FCC still hasn't granted a waiver to the request, but Verizon is in much better shape than Sprint-Nextel and Alltel, who have both stated it will take them a while longer to hit 95 percent.
