Time to burn those Blu-Ray discs... fire optional

Egads! Sony has unleashed their first disc-burner for Blu-Ray (pictured right, via MaxPS3). Initial price? $750. PS3? Good deal, sans the burning sensation. What can this mighty drive do? Why, it can burn either four hours of HD goodness or 50GB of data. For those of us with laptops older than a year, that's pretty much our entire system. On one disc. Kind of moot, since this is an internal drive for PC's, but still. A 25GB burn takes about 50 minutes, according to MaxPS3. Oh, not to mention "Sony's BD drive also supports recording of standard single layer 4.7GB DVD+R/+RW/RAM discs, 8.5GB DVD+R Double/Dual Layer Discs, and CDs, making it a multi-format burner." Which translates to: awesome. Which translates further to: cool, if only it weren't costing an arm and a leg. And an ear. Part of an eye, for tax. Blu-Ray... it sounds so good, but it's so pricey. Is this really the future? Some of us really might need a second job.
