Analyst plays Dr. Doom for PS3 launch numbers
Analyst group Mitsubishi UFJ Securities has reduced its PlayStation 3 launch estimate from 6 million units to 3 million units. This announcement is in reaction to Sony's *ahem* clarification that it plans to ship 4 million units before the end of this year followed by two million by the end of the fiscal year.
The group says it doesn't think Sony can secure enough parts for the PS3 in order to meet expectations. Sony shares dropped 3.2 percent this morning leading Mitsubishi UFJ Securities analyst Masahiko Ishino to say, "In the medium term this [shortage] would mean that it would take longer for Sony to recover its huge investment in PS3 and thus we are downgrading the stock."
