Top 10 ranked games developed by third-party publishers [update 1]
Here are the current top 10 highest rated third-party games based on cumulative reviews posted on Game Rankings (using default setting of 20 reviews minimum). The list, including sequels and omitting PC and first-party games, is as follows:
- Soul Calibur, DC (Namco – 96.4%)
- Tekken 3, PSX (Namco – 96.3%)
- Resident Evil 4, GC, PS2 (Capcom – 96.0%)
- Grand Theft Auto III, PS2 (Rockstar – 95.1%)
- Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, PS2 (Rockstar – 95.0%)
- Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, PS2 (Konami – 94.9%)
- Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, PC (Rockstar – 94.6%)
- Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2, PSX (Activision – 94.5%)
- Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence, PS2 (Konami – 94.5%)
- Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Xbox (LucasArts – 94.5%)
Again, here are some obvious trends to consider before opining: The PlayStation brand is home to seven out of the above 10 titles; Rockstar places three games on the list (though all iterations of the same game); Namco and Konami each have two games on the list; and Nintendo and Microsoft platforms are home to only one game each on the list. Note: Half Life 2 was not included because the PC doesn't have first-party games, and NFL 2k1 for Dreamcast was a first-party game at the time.
