HD DVD and Blu-ray released on October 24th 2006
Just when Blu-ray was starting to catch up Sony pulls two of it's best titles from last week and follows up this week with Monster House. Paramount has a few titles from their catalog and Universal pulls out some classics, wait a second haven't we seen these before? We sure did a few months ago, so those 5 don't count either. With so many changes from titles being shifted around we are going to restart the count based on our friends at High-Def digest historical release schedule. It also seems appropriate to look at some stats; HD DVD has taken 24 weeks to produce 94 titles which is ~4 titles a week, Blu-ray has been out 15 weeks and produced 74 titles which is ~5 titles per week. At that rate it will take another 4 months for Blu-ray to take the lead, but with Disney producing titles now and Fox right around the corner we suspect it won't take them quite that long.
This brings the total to HD DVD 94 vs Blu-ray 74.
