MMO in the business of matchmaking

BFF

Yang Ho-jung and An Young-ran's fairytale love story is one of Seal Online Reload's recent success stories. The Korean MMO has produced twenty-six virtual relationships that have led to marriage. But this is no coincidence.

Nearly three years ago developer Grigon Entertainment implemented its "Couple System," a matchmaking service that has produced an estimated 43,000 in-game relationships. While the majority doesn't end in marriage, Seal Online Reload still lures many lonely hopefuls.

By designing its game to be appealing to stereotypically feminine tastes (e.g., easy and cute), Grigon claims to have attracted a player-base that's 30% female. "As the number of female users are increasing, many male gamers have also joined the game," explained Grigon game master Lee Yoon-kyung, adding, "Many of whom play it to make a girlfriend."
