Apple design and the Weather widget
One of the great things about the Dashboard Weather widget is that it gives you all facts, straight up, even when they're not the facts that you were hoping for. I first noticed the widget's "excessive snow" mode last week, when we were hit by winter storms and once again today, with a return of the blizzard (and I don't mean the good, Dairy Queen, variety), the widget brought a smile to my face with its excessive snow cover. It's the kind of whimsy in design that really points out how special a platform the Mac is. The small touches constantly surprise and delight. It's a design philosophy that competes with, and in my opinion surpasses, all that is utilitarian and stodgy.
Leaving aside the questions of reliability and other more conventional platform comparison concerns, are you willing to pay more for such intangibles of design? I am.
