iTunes: Free Tuesday

Each Tuesday, TUAW is pleased to bring you the latest free items from iTunes. This week's Free Tuesday is dedicated to the memory of Michael Scott Baldwin, a college friend who passed away yesterday surrounded by family and friends. He was too young. He will be missed.

US Music

US: You Give Me Something by James Morrison
"You Give Me Something" has a warm, brassy feel that sounds like it could have rolled off of the soul music assembly line in the early '70s. A touch of strings, brass, and acoustic guitar build up into a crescendo that Morrison is able navigate safely due to his strong, belting vocals. He's obviously a student of the Stevie Wonder songbook who also happens to have his own songs to sing. Should we mention that he hails from the U.K. and is barely in his twenties?

US: Antonia by Stefano Bollani
Stefano Bollani is an Italian pianist who, at 35, has been performing for more than half of his life. His early years were spent at the Florence Music Academy, where he underwent a rigorous study of classical music. At the same time, his ears became attuned to the sound of bebop through masters like Charlie Parker and Bud Powell. "Antonia" is taken from his Piano Solo album and showcases both his virtuosity and his subtlety. It's a relaxed yet completely luscious and enveloping track. Try it for free – it's this week's Discovery Download.

Australia: Sirens by The Temper Trap
Melbourne's Temper Trap has been a permanent fixture on our iPods since the band's music first crossed the iTunes desk. The depth of their sound and songwriting maturity belies the members' relatively tender years. But it's the energy in their songs that grabs you. The group's eponymous debut EP is also available on iTunes. The boys are currently showing their wares up and down the East Coast supporting Kasabian. You'll also be able to check them out soon at Laneway and V Festivals. In the meantime, enjoy our Single of the Week – "Sirens".

Canada: Count Yourself In by Ten Second Epic
Ten Second Epic are an Alberta-based group who posses an undeniable ability to weave its heavy power-pop punk into your being just a few minutes after listening. Case in point: "Count Yourself In", the title track from the band's 2006 album, is so slightly familiar and yet brimming with energy that you could see yourself following the band around the world in a beaten-up Oldsmobile based on the first listen alone. It has the sound of earnest punk rock, yet it's charged with melody. We're proud to call it our "Single of the Week".

France: Amsterdam by Peter, Bjorn and John

UK: One More Won't Kill Me by The Hedrons
We can forgive you if the term "Scottish girl group" doesn't exactly conjure up images of blazing guitar riffs and fingers flying the devil horn. But that's exactly what you get with the Hedrons, a hard-rock, indie-punk four-piece whose sound falls somewhere between the Runaways and the Pixies. For every straightforward riff, you get a slightly askew snarl or ragged guitar line. "One More Won't Kill Me" is our free Single of the Week.
