Fallout 3 teaser site, forums open

Bethesda has launched a teaser site for their current project, Fallout 3. The website is essentially an enlarged version of the adjacent picture, which was unveiled at E3 last year, and a link to the developer's forums pages.

Bethesda has additionally opened forums specifically for the impending sequel and the original two Fallout titles, the rights of which they recently bought from Interplay for reportedly $5.75 million.

Let's take a moment to reflect on Fallout 3's current situation. As Tycho from Penny Arcadenotes, no one knows what exactly Bethesda will do with the franchise, and since they are their own publisher, they can choose to wait and show material from the game whenever they feel its ready. And that could be years.

Fallout fansite No Mutants Allowed has made some anecdotal observations based on polls found in the Bethesda forums, and the fans have overwhelmingly shown that they want Fallout 3 to be just like its predecessors: classic perspective, turn-based combat, absolutely no enemy/item auto-scaling. We think those are all destined to be changed -- sorry, guys, but the times they are a-changing. However, the overwhelming majority also want to see the moral ambiguity and dark humor retained -- we hope so, too, for that's what made the original games so compelling to play.

Oblivion is done and Bethesda has stated they are now wholly committed to Fallout 3. Whether or not we'll see any progress with the game is uncertain. There's at least nine more vaults for the developer to explore. And let's not forget about Pip Boy.
