PS3 hits one million sold in Japan, double Xbox 360

The drum may beat slow, but at least it has a beat. According to research firm Enterbrain, who tracked 3500 shops in Japan, the PS3 has broken the one million mark in sales since launching Nov. 11. Certainly an accomplishment despite what some like Peter Moore might say about the PS3 "failing" in Japan.

Now comes the good news and bad news stuff for the Sony faithful. Bad news is that the Wii is currently waggling its way upwards and onwards with 2.5 million units sold -- expected to be near three million very soon. The good news is that the Xbox 360 is crawling its way to the half million mark, although the Xbox's chances in Japan were slim to begin with. Many people are expecting a boost this week in PS3 numbers for the US following the "clearance sale" announcement from last week. Whether those numbers end up being a sales spike blip or the beginning of the PS3 finally gaining traction we'll have to wait and see.
