iTunes: Free Tuesday
Welcome to this week's edition of iTunes freebies. This week we feature a new collection of free singles and videos from around the world. Here's what's new today.
US Music
US: Daisy (Edit) by Halfway to Hazard
Each week, we find a track from an artist or a band who's on the cusp of success and bring it to you, for free, as our Single of the Week. Halfway to Hazard are a duo from southeast Kentucky – Chad Warrix and David Tolliver. This track is a mixture of sweet, harmonized country pop and a big ol' southern rock ballad. The tale within the tune is worth noting – it goes from young love to tragedy and redemption. It also might be the first song to use the phrase "and the day her water broke" in music history.
US: Viva la Guantanamera (featuring Wildog of Ozomatli, the Klezmatics & Kemo the Blaxican) by Hip Hop Hoodios
Each week, we find a track from an artist or a band who's on the cusp of success and bring it to you, for free, as our Canción de la Semana. Hip-Hop Hoodios is a Latino-Jewish collective known for its mixture of Latin funk and old-school hip-hop. The band gets some help on this track from Ozomatli's Wildog, members of the Klezmatics, and Kemo the Blaxican. It's party music – but with more thoughtfulness and awareness than you might expect.
US: Horse and I by Bat for Lashes
Our Discovery Download puts the focus on a different genre each week, offering up a free track we think is worth your attention. Natasha Khan is the voice and songwriter behind Bat for Lashes. "Horse and I" is a track from her debut, Fur and Lashes, and it captures the sort of dark, cinematic grandeur that she excels at. Against a musical backdrop of strings, eerie whistles, harpsichord, and a military drumbeat, the song comes off like Bjork traipsing around the set of a Tim Burton film.

International
Australia: Riverside by Lowrider
Each week, we find a track from an artist or a band who's on the cusp of success and bring it to you, for free, as our Single of the Week. Lowrider are indeed indebted to the sounds that one would expect to flow freely from the speakers of their namesake. Groovy, early '70s soul, heavy on the Hammond organ and nearly falsetto harmonies – that's what you get on "Riverside," a track from their debut, Riverside, Inspire Me, & Other Lovely Things. If you're down with the Marvin, Curtis, and Donny Hathaway – as well as the Roots and Erykah Badu – chances are that you'll find a play in your collection for Lowrider.
New Zealand: Riverside by Lowrider

Canada: White Dove by John Vanderslice
Each week, we find a track from an artist or a band who's on the cusp of success and bring it to you, for free, as our Single of the Week. John Vanderslice is a singer/songwriter based in San Francisco who has created five full-length albums of fuzzy, intelligent indie rock. "White Dove" is a track from his sixth album, Emerald City, and it's a pleading, expansive tune that has all of the curious impressionistic lyrical style of Neutral Milk Hotel crossed with some of the jarring angularity of the early Pixies.
France: A Thousand Tiny Pieces by The Be Good Tanyas
UK: Counting to Sleep by Wallis Bird
Each week, we find a track from an artist or a band who's on the cusp of success and bring it to you, for free, as our Single of the Week. Wallis Bird is an Irish singer/songwriter whose emotionally threadbare, quirky songwriting is liable to bring her plenty of comparisons to people such as Ani DiFranco and, when she lets her voice flutter, Fiona Apple. "Counting to Sleep" is one of her strongest tunes – the lyrics are curious, dark, swooning, and driven by some fine piano-led, folk-rock accompaniment.
