Second Life shutting down for capacity upgrades

In about a quarter hour, Linden Lab is shutting Second Life down for database upgrades, and to add extra capacity to asset systems. No new code is being deployed during the downtime. The Lindex currency exchange and the land store are already closed preparatory to the upgrade.

The maintenance window is four hours from 7AM SLT (US Pacific time) to 11AM SLT, though these maintenance windows are known to run overtime. Linden Lab usually provides status updates on the blog during the course of maintenance.

If you're a Second Life user, now would be a great time to catch up on your reading at Massively, or take a walk, listen to some music or read a good book. The Massively team has its collective fingers crossed for you, for a smooth maintenance period, a prompt resumption of service, and minimal disruption after the fact.

[Update: Things definitely did not go smoothly. Part of the update screwed up (remember that 'no new code' they said? Well, apparently some of the new code didn't work out so well, and had to be reverted) The grid did not resume service until 2:50PM SLT (US Pacific)]
