Huxley: In-game hyper-active footage from the Korean beta
Huxley is shaping up to be a true to its roots MMOFPS. The second phase of the Korean beta test wrapped up testing focused on the dynamic hyper FPS style gameplay as seen in the footage above provided by Game Videos. During the open beta the testing will focus more on the MMO elements, which are the aspects I'm more interested in because underneath the fancy graphics and hyped up blurbs Huxley is well... Another FPS, but with a tasty grind! Huxley is being developed for the both the PC and Xbox 360 by H-studio under the Webzen flagship. There is still no word on when the non-Korean beta test is planned.
Huxley's story is a bit cliché, eh, not that big of a deal in this type of game. Mankind blows the crap out of each other with nukes; somehow the moon is destroyed in the process, wreaking cataclysmic destruction upon the world as a result. In the aftermath you have two factions, the human Sapiens and the mutated Alternative. Chaotic bedlam ensues over a powerful energy source. Starcraft, anyone? What... I have thing for post apocalyptic settings anyway, but I'm looking for something that's going to break the mold a bit. I'm looking for at least evolved mechanics that will make me think this is an improvement over Planetside; this is an improvement over Anarchy Online. Slapping levels onto a MMOFPS and calling it a day isn't going to hook me in at all.
However, it might hook the Xbox 360 crowd. The developers are aiming Huxley at traditional FPS players, and the plan is to suck their souls away with the RPG elements. Huxley could blow Halo 3's multiplayer away, and if it does I will be laughing like a giddy little school girl because I think Halo 3 is one of the most overrated console game of the year. Halo has sold a bazillion copies and if the right word gets around Huxley could show Halo a few old tricks traditional MMOG gamers already know about. (The January issue of PC Gamer has some more tidbits. One particular note of interest is that Huxley's "battle zones" will scale up to 20v20). If you are still salivating for more information check out Webzen's Huxley site, dubbed in English.
Are any of you looking forward to playing Huxley?
