New Second Life Windlight release - 1.18.6.76116

The First Look release of the Second LifeWindlight project has been updated with a number of bug-fixes wrapped up in a tasty new First Look viewer. What the heck is Windlight all about? Check out our feature on it here.

More details and a list of fixes and changes after the fold. Major highlights include fixes for ambient lighting and avatar illumination - essentially, avatars under Windlight don't suck anymore. There's an interesting extra issue has popped up with this release for many users, however.

Many users are reporting black rings appearing in the sky. If you're seeing something like one of these two shots below, you should go to EDIT > PREFERENCES > GRAPHICS, and change your sky detail slider. Depending on the position of the slider, the rings may be better or worse. There are some positions that eliminate them entirely.

The First Look browser is a beta-test browser that runs against the main (Agni) grid. If it eats your inventory, your files and your dog, that's at your own risk. The viewer is available from the First Look downloads page right now. We recommend the use of a download manager to save download time - it can cut 90% or more off the overall download time for many users. The slow automatic updater is not available for this release at present.

Changes for this release:

  • Get the WindLight lighting calculations to NOT wash everything out!

  • Make pop-up more data driven and change to style of alert used in 1.18.6

  • WindLight: Fails to load shaders under NVIDIA beta 169.xx

  • Snapshots in windowed mode are fuzzy

  • On Linux without Atmospheric Shaders, horizon at night is still bright

  • Hide Particles options fails to function.

Known New Issue:

  • Sky Mesh Detail can show stripes in the sky (play with Sky Detail to fix)

There are presently 221 open Windlight issues, up by 18 from 203 last release.
