US: Astra Heights, The March
Each week, we find a track from an artist or a band who's on the cusp of success and bring it to you, for free, as our Canción de la Semana. Astra Heights is a five-piece group (including four Latino brothers) from Texas who play classic guitar pop, inspired by everyone from the Kinks, to Queen, and Oasis. "The March" is a stomping groove of a track, filled with hand claps; short, sharp riffs; and a triumphant melody.

Each week we find a track from an artist or a band we've been enjoying and bring it to you, for free, as our Single of the Week. If you haven't heard Ashton Shepherd's voice, then after a few seconds into our free Single of the Week, you'll be wondering why that is. She's a young country singer who belts out a tune with a youthful, authoritative twang that makes her sound like she's been around for years. "Takin Off This Pain" is the righteous sound of a woman who's tired of being in an unhappy marriage and is ready to set herself free. Add in a bit of fiddle, barroom piano, and electric guitar and you've got a contemporary country hit in the making.

Each week we find a track from an artist or a band we've been enjoying and bring it to you, for free, as our Single of the Week. MGMT (pronounced "management") is a group from Brooklyn whose debut was produced by frequent Flaming Lips producer Dave Fridmann. They also spent a good part of 2007 opening for Of Montreal. Brightly lit psychedelic rock with electronic overtones is how you might describe "Time to Pretend." It's crunchy pop gem bedazzled with laser rays and glam-rock stomp.

Iedere week kiezen we een track van een artiest of band die we goed vinden. Die krijg je dan gratis als Single van de Week. "Cliffhanger" is een track van Britta Persson's tweede album Kill Hollywood Me. The one-time guitarist for the art/electro/punk group Test Icicles, Lightspeed Champion tones down the assault on this track from his debut full-length, Falling Off the Lavender Bridge. Recorded with help from Omaha's Saddle Creek crew, this tune is much more sweet, and straightforward than you would expect. Augmented by little pedal steel and organ swells, the song has all the gentle pop perfection of an early Aztec Camera track.
