Web-server load balancing still causing problems for Linden Lab

Website load balancing continues to cause trouble for Second Life ancillary services. As Mark Twain once famously said, "Rumors of the resolution of the problems with my web-server load-balancing have been greatly exaggerated." We're sure it was something like that, anyway. A very quotable man, Twain.

Essentially the problem is periodically afflicting all web-based services and pages, including (according to user reports) some login systems. It isn't exceptionally severe, but it is rather irritating when it happens, either preventing pages from loading, or suppressing the inclusion of style-sheets, more or less destroying the layout of the pages.

Linden Lab say they have people hard at work to get this fixed – in the meantime, if you have problems with page loading, 503 or 500 errors, use refresh (Control F5 for Internet Explorer or Control R for most everything else) until you get a clean load. For logins, just keep trying. Usually it behaves on the second or third attempt.
