Rolling restart problems in Second Life again today

With comparatively little notice today, Linden Lab went ahead with a second attempt to roll out the 1.19.0 server code across the Second Life grid. On the whole, it could have gone rather better.

The restart commenced at 2:47PM SLT (US Pacific), and the process was suddenly suspended just after 5PM with a little over 30% complete, as problem reports came in about restarted regions. Users and usage have apparently been heavily impacted today.

Linden Lab says the issue was substantively similar to the one which caused the abort yesterday. Fixes were applied, and the decision was made to start the process over with the fixed code, rather than rolling back a second time.

At 6PM, the rolling restart recommenced, with an anticipated 5 hours to completion, if all goes well.

Shortly before the cessation at 5PM, Linden Lab alerted users to inventory server problems. While only one sixteenth of the population is apparently affected, all users have been advised not to access content that they don't have spare copies of.

Assuming this update makes it through without large-scale problems it would not be unlikely to see a new version official viewer and release candidate viewer on Friday or Monday.
