Yesterday in Second Life: Second Life Daily News
Yesterday in Second Life there was:
- 16,148 new signups bringing the total to 12,515,062 signups.
- A peak concurrency of 59,406 at 1:55PM, and a minimum concurrency of 32,810 at 1:10AM. Median concurrency for the day was 44,487. (Concurrency data was not cleanly reported today – see below)
-
TheGrid Stability Indexfor the day was 2.58 (lower is better).(see below) - There was a short-notice central-servers update, which apparently caused some minor login difficulties, though it is specifically mentioned that this also disrupted concurrency reporting, so it wasn't as bad as it looked. Additionally, it appears we're in for assorted rolling restarts over the next two days.
- It was announced that there will be additional restarts of simulators in batches over the next fortnight, starting today, as groups of simulators are migrated to new network subnets. We guess that this may be to mitigate some of the network routing and VPN problems of late. We hope that this does not cause additional DNS resolution problems.
- The UI reskinning project (codenamed Dazzle) was released as a new First Look viewer branch.
- The auction system was kaput for much of the day, starting in the early morning when there were some loading problems with the Second Life website. The two may be related. Apparently this was not a failure of the auction system itself, so much as it was a failure of parcels to be added to the auction system.
- Live chat (via the Support Portal) and billing support phone systems were down for one hour of scheduled maintenance between 3:15PM and 4:15PM.
- Paypal apparently experienced disruptions of their own, preventing Second Life systems from interacting with them for a short period in the morning.
Below is the day's concurrency graphed for yesterday (left), and the corresponding day from the previous week (right)
