MMOG Podcast Roundup: May 24th - May 31st

Every week, hardworking Massive gaming fans put their voices on the line to bring us news, opinions, and 'critiques' of their favorite games. Podcasts are a staple of many hobbies nowadays, and fans of online worlds are especially fortunate in this regard ... there are a ton out there.

As such, every so often we'll try to update you on the podcasting world. Keep your eyes on this space for links to your favorite MMO-commentary celebs. Good and bad, straight-man or blue-mouthed, they all have something to offer about this amazing style of gameplay.

Today we'd like to highlight a podcast that really needs no introduction. The late, lamented Games for Windows magazine had (in our opinion) probably the best podcast over at the 1up network. Though they're now running the PC games site for 1up instead of a print mag, the show goes on. Regular hosts Jeff Green, Sean Molloy, Ryan Scott, and Shawn Elliot wax philosophic each week about PC gaming, nerd TV, comics, books, and occasionally MMOs. Well worth a listen even when our favorite genre isn't on the table, it's a part of 1up's stable of generally great podcasts.

Joystiq Network Podcasts:

  • Massively Speaking: Episode 7. Site co-lead Krystalle Voecks joins Michael, Shawn, and special guest Brent Lassi to talk (last time, we promise) about Age of Conan's launch. We also open up a can of analysis on the latest City of Heroes patch and Wizard 101.

  • WoW Insider Show: Episode 39. The fantastic Veronica Belmont of Mahalo Daily joins the WI Show team to go back over some of her interviews interacting with World of Warcraft, as well as recent news about the game. The problems with Lich King leaks and Glider bans are the central focus of this discussion.

  • Voyages of Vanguard: Episode 43. Vanguard designer Silius offers up a ton of information about the game to the Voyages crew. The crazy ant mount gets a lot of love this episode, while some of the podcasters try to get hired. Plus firsthand impressions as the Game Update 5 patch dropped live.

  • TabulaCast: Episode 24. The soldiers open up on Deployment 8, a recent WarCry Q&A, and ideas for future patches.
  • Ringcast: Episode 22. Terrible game-related flashbacks that delve deeply into Diablo 2! Solo content compared to fellowship flavour! Elf lore! All in one episode.
  • Warp Drive Active: Episode 37. WDA looks back on five years of EVE Online, all the way back to the dark days of launch. Interesting stuff from a bunch of vets.
  • Witty Ranter: Episode 9. RP vs. XP continues with Luper, Beau, Adam ... and the rest!
  • WDA: Industry: Episode 5. This EVE crafting 'cast focuses on the call to action from recent CSM-elect LaVista. Plus bond shares and a dutch auction.
  • Travels with Troy: Episode 5. The gods of Hyboria are on the docket for today, as well as goblin gambling in EQ2 and Dual Boxing.
  • Van Hemlock: Episode 7. VH joins the Collective and the blokes chat about console MMOs, Conan, and some incredibly British TV shows.

  • Games For Windows: 05/28/2008. Age of Conan's on the docket for the GFW crew along with Civ Revolution, the PA game, and ... California's map publication guidelines.
  • The Instance: Episode 108. That pesky Flash vulnerabilty gets top billing, with additional love given to the WWI event, WotLK leaks, and a druid tanking Onyxia.

  • Legendary Thread: 05/29/2008. A bunch of 1up guests join the regular crew for talk of leaks from the Lich King, and Age of Conan to boot.
  • Limit Break Radio: Episode 32. FFXI player rejoice as Maxx-V and Tigerfury come for a visit. A drinking visit! The brew also spurs conversations about ToAU missions, HNMs, and the mission storyline for Treasure of Aht Urhgan.
  • Epic Dolls: Episode 38. Healer assistance from a pally, Thrall's history, and a macrotastic rundown.

  • The Jester's Court: Episode 99. Just one away from their centennial, the court talks Issue 12 in CoH, Conan's release, and Jumpgate Evolution.
  • Pet Food Alpha: Episode 102. Hard not to be a BST when you're run-DNCing. Also jailers and THFs!

  • DDOcast: Episode 69. I wonder if the DDO players have anything to talk about this week? Module 7 out the wazoo, that's what!

  • Channel Massive: Episode 43. AoC and WotLk, two great tastes ...
  • PC Gamer Podcast: Episode 134. Conan's launch fits in alongside chat about Mass Effect, pirating games, and the ESA's recent troubled past.
