Second Life daily news

One small, waddling step..

  • 9,098 new signups bringing the total to 13,910,663 signups.
  • A peak concurrency of 60,307 at 2:50PM, and a minimum concurrency of 14,432 at 2:45AM. Median concurrency for the day was 47,464.

The Grid Stability Index for the day was 6.17 (lower is better).

If you tried to get into the grid during the morning, you don't need to be told that it was a shocking day. The servers that comprise Linden Lab's grid are divided among three data-centers across the USA. Problems with a network provider's (we think it was Level 3) hardware, disrupted communications to Linden Lab's San Francisco data-center (and also took down Amazon and others), but the interdependence of the distributed portions of the grid, pretty much spoiled things for everyone. A failure at one site, pretty much seems to eliminate the usability of the others.

OnRez is still trying to pick up the pieces from the failure.

Below is the day's concurrency graphed for yesterday (left), and the corresponding day from the previous week (right)

Recent users reported by Linden Lab (that is, users who have logged in at least once within the last 60 days) is 1,170,217. Linden Lab last updated this figure on 6 June 2008 at 23:59.
