Second Life daily news

Virtual Birmingham Briefing Hub — seriously clever.

  • 10,034 new signups bringing the total to 13,978,701 signups.
  • A peak concurrency of 59,848 at 1:55PM, and a minimum concurrency of 35,100 at 6:25AM. Median concurrency for the day was 45,594.

The Grid Stability Index for the day was 1.77 (lower is better). Network issues caused some problems in the early morning for some thousands of users. Additionally, there were (the now regrettably usual) service failures in the afternoon.

There are unconfirmed reports that logins were restricted to premium accounts only for several minutes, but were not accompanied by any of the other notifications. During the same period, logins were also down for premium accounts. We have asked Linden Lab about that, but don't expect a timely or informative response. It may well have been erroneous reporting.

Another item of erroneous reporting during the afternoon and early evening was the login screen advising users (seemingly at random) that their viewer was out of date, and that they needed to download a newer version. This affected users who had the Nicholaz, Release Candidate and official version viewers that we are aware of, but seemed otherwise quite random.

NOTE: Approximately 20% of the grid will be offline this-morning between 5:30AM and 6:00AM while maintenance work takes place at one of the data-centers.

Below is the day's concurrency graphed for yesterday (left), and the corresponding day from the previous week (right)

Recent users reported by Linden Lab (that is, users who have logged in at least once within the last 60 days) is 1,201,475. Linden Lab last updated this figure on 9 Jun 2008 at 23:59.
