Massively's exclusive tour of LotRO Book 14: Battlefield defense points
An exciting new set of instances are introduced with Book 14: the battlefield defense points. In these battles, your fellowship of six must defend an area on the battlefield for 30 minutes against multiple waves of attacks on three separate fronts. These attacks are completely random, as are the difficulty of each group, the number in each group and the timing of each attack. You could get attacked on multiple fronts simultaneously, or sit in waiting for several minutes licking your wounds. To check the status of each attack point, there are banners planted around them, where you can mouse-over to see which one is currently being attacked. This is especially helpful considering the size of these battlefields.
The enemies you kill here will drop reputation tokens, which can be bartered for special items in the game. Each of the three battlefields that will be unlockable later in Book 14 have their own distinct differences. The first one, which is the one we were able to play through, takes place just outside of Aughaire. The second takes place on the Line of Death, which is a line of statues near the center of Angmar. The third battlefield is an assault and defense of Carn Dum. These instanced quests are not part of the epic storyline and are fully repeatable.
