Massively's guide to reducing your Second Life lag: Final thoughts

Final thoughts

Lag is always going to be a part of life online, at least until someone finds a way to exploit quantum entanglement and violate causality in practical ways to violate the speed of light. If you pay attention to the few basic numbers above, and follow the steps we've provided, however, you should be able to reduce lag as far as it is practicable, and generally improve your Second Life experience.

If you are a content-creator or a scripter, there is an even longer list of poorly-understood things you can do to avoid putting unwarranted load onto simulators for others. Unfortunately, most of the conventional wisdom you'll get if you ask around is junk. Following much of it will make things worse, not better. All that is a little out of our scope for now. Get your own lag under control first.

Follow through and at the end, you'll know you've done all that you can to ensure that you have a smooth online experience.
