Rock Band 2's official release date is October 19th

Harmonix officially announced today that Rock Band 2 will be released October 19th for the PS3. Those of you who felt slighted by the game's timed exclusivity on the 360 may feel a little better knowing that the Special Edition bundle for both consoles (which includes all the improved instruments) will be released on that same day for $189.99. The standalone software will be $59.99, the standalone drums will be $89.99 while the standalone guitar will be $69.99.

Unfortunately, looking at the official site, it looks like the PS3 version of the luxurious Ion Drum Rocker we highlighted a while back is still unavailable for purchase. One retailer has the peripheral for pre-order, but the expected release date is almost two months from now, on December 15. Another expects a release date of November 17th. Regardless, we are guessing it'll make the perfect Christmas gift for the spoiled child (or inner child) in your life.

Finally, don't forget to register at this site for their free 20-song DLC in the near future when you get your hands on your copy of RB2.
