LotRO player's guide to WoW: PvP
As we mentioned earlier, the PvP systems between games is quite different. LotRO's version of PvP is called PvMP (Player versus Monster Player), Monster Play, The Ettenmoors or simply The Moors. You can find out more complete information on the basics of how it all works through a guide we wrote earlier this year. The biggest difference with Monster Play is the fact that any Monster players you create will be treated almost as a separate account from your normal characters. You can't earn loot as a Monster for your other characters, and your Monster can't come sit at your feasting table for second breakfast. Now you can do all of this with your "Freeps" or Free Peoples PvMP characters, but you'll need to be at least level 40 to even begin. Most of the combat revolves around confrontations and Keep-taking in a small map known as The Ettenmoors. Monster players can't leave that map for any other part of the game.
With WoW's PvP, you have open PvP on any server, yet there are PvP-specific servers where you'll always need to watch your back. There are also several Arena PvP battles and Battlegrounds maps where the Horde vs. Alliance battles can turn into an all-out war. WoW's PvP is loot-based and loot-driven, with special PvP gear that utilizes its own bragging rights.
Both games have a dueling system, although as we mentioned, WoW's is just used much more. In fact, although many players bash WoW's PvP, it is a bit more complicated, with more goals to achieve, than LotRO's PvMP system.
