Know Your LotRO Lore: Khazad-dum in the Second Age

In the Second Age, many Dwarven refugees escaped their recently-ruined cities in Beleriand to settle within the security of Khazad-dûm. These newly inflated numbers, plus the trade bonds that grew with Men, allowed Khazad-dûm to hold back the new Orc threat. The Longbeards soon dominated the areas in the northern and central Misty Mountains, and the lands east of there. Khazad-dûm had now become a Dwarven melting pot of sorts.

Around the year 700, the Dwarves made their way westward through the underground caves to the Elven land of Eregion. The Elves and Dwarves were such solid allies at this time, many of Khazad-dûm's mansions were developed and designed by the Eregion Elves. This led to a migration of development westward by the Dwarves, yet the majority of habitable areas remained in the eastern side.
