Know Your LotRO Lore: Notable Elves

We figured the best way to relate what you know about the game, movies and books to what you've learned here is to describe just a few of the most well-known Elves and who they are.

Lúthien
– She was the first Elf to ever give up her immortality for the love of a Man. Upon her ascension into Valinor, she was so filled with grief over the separation from her beloved husband Beren that she took up Manwë's offer to allow her to return to Middle-earth as a mortal, and live along side her mortal husband until the end of their days. This is how Elrond came to be known as the Half-Elven, as he was a descendant of this line.

Elrond – The Lord of Rivendell and one of Middle-earth's mightiest rulers in the Third Age. It is said that he was over 6,000 years old during the time of the Fellowship's creation.

Arwen – Elrond's daughter who married Aragorn, who is actually a cousin of hers. She was said to resemble her great, great grandmother Lúthien in fairness.

Legolas – A Sindar Elf who was part of the Fellowship of the Ring. He arrived in Rivendell as a messenger from his father, announcing the escape of Gollum from their guard. It is here that he joined the Fellowship and ultimately proved his worth throughout the journey.

Glorfindel - First appearing in Tolkien's The Fall of Gondolin, Glorfindel was one of King Turgon's chief lieutenants. His battle with a Balrog spawns one of the greatest Elven proverbs of all time. In The Lord of the Rings, Glorfindel appears again in the Battle of Fornost. He is the one who first prophesies that the Witch-king will fall "by the hand of man", which was later discovered to be no reference to gender.

Galadriel
– One of the most important Elves in Tolkien's works, Galadriel is an Elf of the highest nobility, being the grandchild of both King Finwë and King Olwë. She and her husband Lord Celeborn ruled Lothlórien until her final days on Middle-earth. Her daughter Celebrían married Elrond, making her Arwen's grandmother.
