WRUP: We play everything so you don't have to edition
For this week's episode of WRUP, we snuck a question in with our regularly scheduled weekend gametime overview: we've asked readers before, but today we're asking the Massively staff how many MMOs they play. In answer, we've discovered, unsurprisingly, that we play a heck of a lot of different games.
Interested in what the Massively staff is up to in-game this weekend? Then read on!
- Alexis Kassan: DDO before my 10 day trial runs out. :-) I want to actually try soloing in it given the lovely Solo instance option.
- Brendan Drain: I have a research dissertation due in just over two weeks so this weekend it's full steam ahead with that. Of course I'll still find time to play EVE Online, where my corp has found a massive valuable gas cloud inside wormhole space and will be mining it for some good isk. Playing: As for actively playing, I'm down from 2 to 1 now since the friend I played EQ2 with quit and started playing EVE Online. Once I complete university (only a few months to go D:), I'll have a lot more free time. I'll definitely be looking into Runes of Magic to see how that's gotten on and may give a few others a go.
- Brooke Pilley: EVE has been putting me through some intense mental gymnastics since I started the trial earlier this week. I'll be playing that most of the weekend and since I only really have time to "actively" play one MMO, that puts WAR on the sidelines for the time being.
- Colin Brennan: This weekend = much Persona 4. I haven't had this much fun with a stand alone RPG in ages. Past that, I do believe Obsidian Sanctum Heroic is this weekend's Happy Fun Sunday Bonus Time Instance Raid. Not bad for a roleplaying guild, if you ask me. Playing: While I've played almost every game on the market (and have a disk for almost all of them... including PlanetSide and Auto Assault.) I'm back down to 5 active games. World of Warcraft, Lord of the Rings Online, Shin Megami Tensei: Imagine, Final Fantasy XI and, if we want to count it, Second Life.
- Dan O'Halloran: Just finished my Moria pre-quests and got my first Legendary weapon, but I still have two and a half levels until I hit 50 on my Lore-master and can continue into Moria so I'll be spending the weekend grinding those out on Angmar quests. I don't know what Angmar was like before they polish pass the devs did after launch, but I'm enjoying the quests there immensely. Playing: Three is my usual limit for active accounts. At the moment those are WoW, LotRO and EQ2.
- Joe Blancato: Age of Conan. God help me, it's pretty damn good.
- James Egan: I'll be playing EVE Online, I haven't had much time to do so lately and that's killing me because I do love the game. Pretty much for the last week I've lived vicariously through the growing legion of people I seem to have brought into New Eden, which is cool. Since we're probably looking at an easy holiday weekend at Massively, I might also get into City of Heroes and play around with the Mission Architect. What else? A little Combat Arms, try out Project Torque and Runes of Magic, and generally terrorizing Engineers as a TF2 spy. Playing: When I started here I had many subs each month but it's not possible to keep all those accounts open anymore. (Fun trivia fact: Massively writers do in fact pay for their own game subs.) Much as I'd love to be playing 5 or more MMOs each month — not fiddling around but really playing — there's not enough time in the day. I'm likely to play two MMOs in a given month, one of which is always EVE, the second changes from month to month. If I can get into beta for Jumpgate Evolution, Black Prophecy, Earthrise, Free Realms, and Fallen Earth, I may fade from meatspace entirely.
- Krystalle Voecks: I joined a friend of mine's EVE Online corp, and will be spending some time this weekend playing with them. I'll also be racking some time up in Runes of Magic with my other half and a few of our friends. Playing: EVE (current primary), SOE Station Pass (EQ/EQ2/MxO/SWG/Vanguard/PlanetSide/PotBS), and FusionFall on a family account. I also have RoM, and accounts in about a dozen other F2P MMOs. I'd have a few more open but I'm saving my pennies to get to E3 at the moment.
- Kyle Horner: Dungeons and Dragons Online for me! And probably a little AoC. Okay maybe a lot. Playing: I currently am only playing DDO and AoC at the moment, although I usually only focus on one at a time. My past is riddled with wallet wounds from just about every MMO that's hit retail. It's a long and ugly road I've traveled on, filled with the digitized corpses of many a rat, wolf and or other low-level mob.
- Lemuel Pew: This weekend I'm finishing up my first City of Heroes mission arch to publish, and working on unlocking all the mission editor goodies. Playing: Right now I'm only playing City of Heroes officially, but I am in a few betas and I also have a couple freebie MMOs (FusionFall, Flyff, and There) I muck with from time to time.
- Lesley Smith: I'm farming Naxx with the guildies, we might kick Sarth's arse again for fun and maybe do some heroics, it depends how much work I do. I play WoW pretty much exclusively, even if I am dipping my toes in the scary world of EVE Online.
- Shawn Schuster: Now that my LotRO main is finally 60, I'm moving on to my next alt (49) for a bit. Hopefully I can get her to 50 over the weekend. Playing: Currently, I have four MMOs that I play regularly. I also like to take advantage of free trials at every opportunity, so that number fluctuates.
- Tateru Nino: City of Heroes/Villains (just published my first custom mission), Shin Megami Tensei: Imagine Online, for this weekend, though the majority of my time will be work-time in Second Life. Playing: And four, though I could probably squeak another free-to-play one or two in.
And if that wasn't enough MMOs for you, why not tell us what you're playing this weekend?
