WRUP: Pick an MMO, any MMO edition
So many MMOs demand our attention these days — and somehow there are still only 24 hours in the day. How's an honest gamer to balance family, friends, sleep, games, and the all-important blogging? As soon as we figure it out, we'll let you know. But in the meantime, here's what we're playing this weekend. (Warning: some of us tend towards verbosity.)
- Brendan Drain: EVE Online. This weekend I've been testing out the tweaks to the new scanning system and helping my newbie friend run complexes for some fat loot. My little alliance is planning to pack up and leave our wormhole system in 1-2 weeks, which will signal an end to our second successful nomadic expedition. Whether we'll have a third or not I don't know but we have certainly learned a lot from them so far. Yesterday, we came across a strange new Talocan cosmic anomaly called the "Integrated Terminus," which provided a little glimpse of storyline showing that the Talocan and Sleeper nations worked together as nomadic tribes, deploying structures similar to our control towers. Not terribly profitable, but still an interesting find. Of course we blew the structure up but the cryptic message I received on its destruction makes me wonder if we were meant to do something else with it instead. Elsewhere in EVE, I've had a very strong urge to launch stealth bomber gangs into 0.0 and into other people's wormholes ever since the latest patch moved stealth bombers to an anti-battleship role and gave them a covert ops cloaking device. Another week left on the skill to launch bombs, but I think it's going to be worth it.
- Brooke Pilley: I'll spend the gaming portion of my weekend training and fitting my Merlin combat/tackler in EVE and experiencing some of the new 1.21 goodies in Warhammer.
- Colin Brennan: Probably going to be bouncing between City of Heroes (architect is addictive) and World of Warcraft, as I haven't seen the new Argent Tournament content yet.
- Craig Withers: Have finally rediscovered just how much fun it is being a Protection Warrior in WoW, so I'll be doing that, working through some Argent Tournament dailies and wondering why anyone would want to play a class other than Warrior.
- Dan O'Halloran: Will be making the final push to 50 with my Lore-master in LotRO so I can delve more deeply into the Moria expansion content. Will also be logging in to WoW to play with dual specs and check out the new Argent Tournament content that came with this week's Patch 3.1.
- Jon Shute: This weekend I will be finally going on an expedition into W-space in EVE. After I get destroyed I will probably go to LotRO relax and unwind.
- James Egan: It's definitely time for me to move on to a new corp in EVE so if I get much time to play over the weekend, I'll be talking to people and seeing where this takes me. Thanks for the offers so far, everyone, and keep 'em coming! (You can hit me up at james AT massively DOT com if you're recruiting. I'm seriously not an über combat pilot or anything... quite the opposite... but have about 32 million skillpoints racked up. Any Sansha or Blood Raider semi-RP corps out there?) Also some readers have gotten in touch with me about meeting up in-game and I know some of the Massively writers (and possibly a blogging/podcasting STAR or two) are in an EVE corp, maybe I'll hit them up about running a Level 4 or going for a roam where the bad people live. If I get time to play much this weekend, and not sure that I will, I'll have plenty to keep me busy. Beyond internet spaceships I'm considering firing up City of Heroes again, well Villains actually, but not sure if I'll go ahead with that just yet. Aside from Team Fortress 2 and a regular Halo 3 meetup with some friends, I'll probably spend a lot of this weekend *writing* about MMOs instead of playing them. There are a few articles I've had on the back burner for far too long (sorry Mynxee) that really need my attention, but they'll rock. You will see. YOU WILL ALL SEE!! *begins scribbling patterns and anagrams on the walls again*
- Krystalle Voecks: This weekend will likely see me sidelined from MMO gaming due to injury. That said, my D&D group is meeting this weekend. Yay!
- Kyle Horner: This weekend I will be taking an MMO break and playing a little Demigod. Next week though, next week it's on.
- Lesley Smith: I'm going to be trying out the Argent Tournament quests in WoW and trying to find the right chain to do the Wrathgate. I'd like to have a peek in Ulduar too and must do a mining run for the guild.
- Lemuel Pew: I'd be a dirty, rotten liar if I didn't say I'll be playing City of Heroes. The more things change, the more things stay the same.
- Tateru Nino: City of Heroes: Maybe I will be able to break away from Architect Entertainment and actually hit the streets. I'm sure I've got some missions that have languished a bit there. Also looking forward to spending a bit of time with [BETA] and [BETA]. Plus work in Second Life, and a little Shin Megami Tensei: Imagine Online and Dwarf Fortress.
So, dear readers, what are you playing this weekend?
