WRUP: We love Free Realms edition
It's not that we have anything against other MMOs. Not at all! They're tons of fun. (And it takes a substantial amounts of time just to figure out which of our favorites to play!) But Free Realms is full of so much crazy, colorful, casual-gaming fun that it's hard to resist its siren song. (And with even the Penny Arcade crew hooked, it's not like we're in bad company.) However, some of us haven't yet fallen pray the game's adorable claws, and for those people, we present this week's WRUP, full of as more MMOs than you can shake a stick at... plus an awful lot of Free Realms.
For what the Massively crew is up to in-game (and out) this weekend... or to tell us what you're up to in game this weekend... read on!
- Brendan Drain: Unfortunately this week I won't have much time to play any games. I'll be spending the weekend polishing off the final research dissertation for my masters degree in computer science. What little time I will be getting will be spent in EVE Online, where my alliance are packing up our second long-term expedition into a wormhole system and counting the isk we made. It'll be good to get our feet back on dry land again, so to speak.
- Brooke Pilley: This weekend marks the end of my 21-day EVE trial. Time to decide whether or not to pick up the game! I may also get in some WAR.
- Colin Brennan: Will be attending the funeral of Dave Szulborski, one of the great Alternate Reality Game puppetmasters, my inspiration to keep working in the games industry, and a friend who said the right things when I needed to hear them the most. Dave created games in his time that changed the lives of those who played them — Chasing the Wish, The Art of the Heist, and Unnatural Selection, to name a few. We can only wish that we could be so creative and inspirational with our own projects as Dave was with his.
- Craig Withers: Well, I managed to score a free code for LotRO from Eurogamer earlier today, so I may be giving that another go. If not, it'll be back to tanking and spanking with my Draenei Warrior. Also, I may play some WoW.
- Dan O'Halloran: Delving further into the depths of Moria with my Lore-master as well as exploring Free Realms and maybe paying attention to WoW again.
- Elizabeth Harper: Another +25% bonus XP weekend in LotRO? Yes, please!
- James Egan: EVE.
- Jon Shute: This weekend I suspect I'll probably end up playing a bit of EVE, a bit of LotRO and then far, far too much Free Realms.
- Krystalle Voecks: According to my doc, it's another weekend of "don't mess with your right wrist too much." As such, it'll be short bursts of The Chronicles of Spellborn, Free Realms, back to see my most awesome corp-mates in EVE and running around in an unnamed beta. I'm seriously itching to play all four, but it all comes down to which will be easiest for me to play with only one hand. (I suspect Free Realms and EVE will wind up being the champs there.)
- Kyle Horner: I will be tinkering with the Mission Architect in City of Heroes and spending a little time with my Warden in Lord of the Rings Online to celebrate its 2nd Anniversary. More free LotRO, yay! Also! I'll also be playing Free Realms, as I can now say that.
- Lemuel Pew: Comfortably playing City of Heroes for the indefinite future until Jumpgate Evolution comes out. Currently working on some of the new crazy ways to build supergroup bases since the Issue 13 revamp opened up the creative floodgates. Between base building and mission editing, CoH is starting to feel more like LittleBigPlanet.
- Lesley Smith: I've given up playing EVE, it's huge and scary and so not Azeroth. This weekend I feel like a little console action rather than MMOs. I might even have a jaunt around Tamriel for a bit but I will of course nip into Azeroth for Noblegarden. Then I'm going to play with my kitten.
- Shawn Schuster: Free Realms for me. It's great to have a game I can play with my kids, instead of waiting until they go to bed to play!
- Tateru Nino: Free Realms (I can say that now, right?), more work in Second Life as usual, and a swing past Mabinogi and some more time with an unnamed beta. Wading through the all sorts of beta bugs, and hoping it all gets fixed before release.
- William Dobson: I'm giving The Chronicles of Spellborn a try while the premium subscriptions are on the house. It seems like it has a lot of potential so far.
So, dear readers, what are you playing this weekend?
