EVE Evolved: A year of EVE Evolved - personal favourites, part 2
Storytelling in EVE Online
My latest column posts are always some of my favourites, no matter the topic. As I only write about topics that particularly interest me, every article represents a genuine interest strong enough to make me research the topic at hand. This post encouraged me to read parts of the EVE fiction that I'd neglected to read in years. In addition, this article took advantage of the extra title image space produced when the web wizards at massively redesigned the site. After almost a year of the same tired old title images, I took the opportunity to produce much better-looking new image templates. This redesign makes it feel like the column has been reinvigorated, ready for another year of articles to be posted.
Top ten videos of all time
It seems readers enjoyed this post as much as I enjoyed making it. In researching for this article, I downloaded dozens of EVE videos that I'd never seen before. It was surprising to see that some of EVE's most impressive and celebrated EVE videos had completely slipped my notice. If you only read one article from the column, make it this one. Since then, an incredible new video has been released. "Day of Darkness II" retells the story of one of EVE's historic battles from the prime fiction and there's pressure from the community on its creator "Dire Lauthris" to continue producing these impressive video-chronicles.
One popular addition to the list that I've been referred to at least a dozen times is Loxyrider's "This is EVE" series of videos. Although my top 5 were all major cinematic efforts, Loxyrider and others have done a spectacular job of putting together videos showing what EVE is really all about. Arguably, videos like this are more important than the cinematic eye-candy that filled most of my list.
Thank you:
Regular column posts resume next week but I'd like to take this opportunity to thank each and every reader for their interest. It's a rare thing to be able to do something you love for a living and I love writing about MMOs and EVE Online in particular. But without you guys, I'd just be a crazy guy typing to himself about EVE. Of course I'm still a crazy guy typing about EVE but at least I have an audience!
Summary:
It's been a short year for me. I can remember the day I wrote "The Nano Problem" and "Faction Warfare Unleashed" as if it were yesterday but there have been over 40 articles since then. That's one successful year down and I'm looking forward to perhaps another year of writing EVE Evolved. Congratulations again to massively reader Vundal on winning this special anniversary competition. Your prize will be delivered within the week!
