WRUP: Summer fun in the MMO sun
Welcome, one and all, to the weekend! Is the month almost over already? We checked and double-checked our calendars and it looks like, yes, we've made it to the the last weekend of June. July, and more summer weather are just around the bend — which makes it seem like a great time to beat the heat by staying indoors and play video games! Here at Massively hope you're all enjoying it, in or out of game. So... what are you up to this weekend? And what is the Massively team up to this weekend? You'll have to read on to find out...
- Brendan Drain (@nyphur): I've been on holiday in the amazing country of Iceland this week so my weekend will probably be spent catching up with what my crew have been up to in EVE Online. I hope the universe hasn't collapsed in my absence! After last week's mishap with my tengu escaping a sleeper site on low structure, I think I'll be selling it and going back to ships that are more in my price range :S. It's also LAN party season here and I'm long overdue for some competitive gaming action. A lot to look forward to on the long flight home to Ireland.
- Brooke Pilley: Gooooooooooooooone fishing! For real. *runs off to collect some bait*
- Colin Brennan (@sera_brennan): Will most likely be splitting my time between Team Fortress 2, Final Fantasy XI, and some awesome roleplaying. This weekend I'm trying out the pen and paper RPG Anima. It looks insanely complex, but it also looks like it could be a lot of fun. Fantasy tied with the stuff of legends? Yes, please.
- James Egan (@jamesegan): My Team Fortress 2 obsession has been sated for the time being. Probably. So I'm spending more of my game time in EVE Online now. PLEX hit my wallet in-game, wrecking for 400 million ISK damage, so I need to recoup some of this with some Level 4's this weekend. Plus I'm having a lot of fun in uncharted (wormhole) space, considering an extended stay. Odd as it sounds, I kind of like the paranoia of not being able to see other pilots in local chat, and have on a few occasions only known of their presence by seeing their combat probes on directional scan. Zeroing in on my location so they can hunt me down. I guess it's that element of risk to operating in wormhole space, particularly when you're in there solo (Class 2), that I like. The Sleeper NPCs are really tough, there are plenty of exploration sites, and with the risk of being discovered by other players intent on your demise, you've really got to keep your wits about you. It's a lot of fun and I'm going back in there this weekend for more.
- Kyle Horner (@kylehorner): I'll be poking around for groups in FFXI and playing some of my Steam games. Since I just bought Sword of the Stars Ultimate Pack I could end up playing a lot of that. Or, I could end up grouping in FFXI for hours... hard to say!
- Lemuel Pew (@lemmo): I got some Free Realms cash for Father's Day, and promptly blew it on a tophat and monocle so people would know how much of a mogul I am. So maybe I'll log in and show off my tophat and monocle. Step aside freebs, VIP coming through!
- William Dobson: Due to other commitments I probably won't be doing much MMOing this weekend. If I do play games, I will probably play Valkyria Chronicles on the PS3.
- Krystalle Voecks (@Krystalle): I'm continuing to slowly get mobility back in my right hand/wrist after surgery, so I'm planning to combine physical therapy with console and iPhone gaming since I haven't been able to do that in quite some time. Tons of games to catch up on!
So, dearest readers, what games do you find yourself playing this weekend?
