One Shots: At the heart of things

Every so often we hear back from interstellar traveler and occasional One Shots contributor, Redwense, who sends us great visual postcards and interesting stories from within the galaxies of EVE Online. Today's One Shots is a stunning image captured during a recent skirmish. Red Federation and Blue Republic were on a "Purple" skirmish through low security space, hoping to catch some action against fresh targets. Normally, the corporations would continue their daily "Red versus Blue" campaign--taking the form of a primitive "fight club"--within the region of Verge Vendor, but members often craved for new targets elsewhere.

Cease fire, mix a fleet of Red and Blue, and you get Purple. I found it witty. But "normal" people would instinctively run from the billion-ISK-worth monster of organized destruction.

Unfortunately, by the end of the skirmish, there were no encounters to be found. No shots were fired. After an hour of searching, this was simply unacceptable for the Reds and the Blues.

And so the entire fleet decided to turn on each other. Out of boredom. At a whim.

For "fun."

The NeoCom flashed endlessly with messages of disappointment, for the hunt was fruitless. There was nothing to kill but themselves--again. But I couldn't help but feel elated by the sheer force of destruction that soon erupted before my frigate. I observed the fleet from a safe distance as dozens of ships blotted out the sun, while massive behemoths fired upon each other and ripped apart in a glorious and intense shower of fire and metal. Smaller ships were immediately disintegrated by the force of explosions and collisions.

I smiled, and then found myself laughing uncontrollably.
