WRUP: Garlic, Duck Tales, and oh yeah, console games edition

It's been another fun week here at the Massively virtual headquarters as we gather up our new writers and put them through the hazing training process. These super-secret rituals involve lots of things like cookies, garlic (not at the same time mind you), wistful meanderings on Duck Tales, and more. Obviously we can't tell you all our super-secrets, or we'd have to unleash the quacken on you. Suffice it to say, if you think we're fun in-game or in IRC, you should see the official inter-office memos that fly around here!

Anyway, to get rolling on this week's WRUP, we've bundled up everyone's replies along with a bonus question this week, courtesy of reader kidsneedtoswear, who wanted to know: If you could have a MMORPG version of any console game, what would it be?

Curious as to the answers? Don't really care and just want to tell us what you're up to? All this and more will be revealed beyond the break!

Beau Hindman (@spouseaggro): I will be playing with the double XP in SWG and Alganon, plus taking care of my crops in WURM Online. If I could see one console game as an MMO, it would be Shadow of the Colossus.

Brianna Royce: It's a Guild Wars weekend for me, unless some other game surprises me Friday and hands out a freebie holiday weekend. I'm dusting off my unloved paragon for a romp through Factions — maybe I'll get over my irrational fear of white plastic armor skirts? As for a console game, I wanna see Rock Band Online! Level 50 drummer LFG Beatles raid PST!

Brendan Drain (@nyphur): Having finally picked the winners of our final EVE Tyrannis contest, this weekend will be spent training the Planetary Interaction skills and scanning planets. Anyone that won one of the three contests but hasn't received their PLEX yet, please be patient! CCP has told us there's a delay in distributing the prizes, but rest assured if you won any PLEX you will get them as soon as is possible! This weekend, I plan to get to grips with the planet scanning interface and scout out some promising areas for colonies in preparation for command centres being seeded on June 8th. To answer the bonus question, I'd have to go with Pokémon. The world needs a Pokémon MMO!

Dan O'Halloran: Been playing waaaaaay too many differnt games this week. Warrior Epic: Sagas on the iPhone, Faunasphere and The Agency: Covert Ops on Facebook, Lord of Ultima and started a new Barbarian Troubador in EverQuest 2 to explore the GU56 New Halas content update. What can I say? I'm a sucker for re-imagined EQ1 content.

Console game as MMORPG? Gotta be the Atari 2600 RPG from my late 70s childhood, Adventure, of course!

Edward Marshall: This weekend in Fallen Earth, Exile and Wolves of War have declared war on each other. The chosen battlefields are Zanesville on Friday, Midway on Saturday and Embry on Sunday. All battles will start at approximately 6PM EST. Come out and see two of the biggest clans duke it out, that's where I'll be.

Eliot Lefebvre: This week has been just plain awful for gaming time, so I'm looking to use the holiday as a chance to set things right. Get some spider time in on CoH, play some Split/Second, and consider dropping WoW for GW. If only the Trilogy pack had Eye of the North instead of Prophecies...

As for games to put online, usually I prefer going the opposite direction — I remember with no small dose of bitterness what happened when they took Phantasy Star into the online world. That being said, Vagrant Story Online would likely get at least a month from me, as would a game based on the Persona franchise.

Greg Waller: I'll be playing Warhammer this weekend. I need to rack-up a few more tokens for my royal healing staff. As for the bonus question, I think I would have to say that I would love to see an MMO developed based on Shadowrun for the old Sega Genesis (a game originally developed by FASA for the tabletop RPG crowd).

Jef Reahard: Looking like a Red Dead Redemption weekend for me, alongside a generous helping of Age of Conan. Might sneak in a little Aion, but it's hard to justify grinding when 1.9 is supposedly going to alleviate it in a few days.

Justin Olivetti (@sypster): I'm torn between pushing my burglar in LotRO up into the 40's to take advantage of the +5% XP bonus for Welcome Back Week, or playing my bard in DDO to take advantage of the increased loot drops. Decisions, decisions!

Krystalle Voecks (@Krystalle): This weekend is final tech before our show opens, so I'll be grinding that sweet, sweet stage management xp. If I manage to get some downtime, I'll be zooming around in LEGO Universe.

As for a console cross-over, I'm not so much looking for a cross as waiting on the Bethesda Softworks MMO. I've played Fallout 3, Morrowind, and Oblivion fairly obsessively, so I'll likely pounce all over their MMO.

Larry Everett (@Shaddoe): It's been a really light week game-wise for me. Besides my normal SWG, I did play some Mass Effect 2 on the insanity level setting, which leads to the bonus question. The console MMO I'd like to see as an MMO would be Mass Effect, although a classic game like the Legend of Zelda would be fun, too.

Patrick Mackey (@mackeypb): I've been sick for a week or so, but I will definitely be testing Serpent Lantern this weekend. My pen and paper game has been pretty fun, and we're doing a little of that too. If I could play a MMO version of a console game, I'd definitely have to say Armored Core. I realize Exteel exists and is very similar, but I'd like something with a more persistent world.

Seraphina Brennan (@sera_brennan): This weekend's plans include a wide variety of different gaming pleasures, such as World of Warcraft, Alan Wake on Nightmare mode, and some roleplaying on Sunday. I personally can't believe I'm playing World of Warcraft again, but I know I'm going back to EverQuest II once my new computer comes in. *Pets the print out of her Alienware Aurora*

As for a console game that I'd like to see as an MMO, can I say True Fantasy Live Online? Ok, ok, I know it was suppose to be a console MMO, but I really wanted to play that game. It looked fun, and I can't believe it got canceled in development. Otherwise, hrm, I guess my vote would have to be for something like Phantasy Star. Oh... wait...

Tateru Nino (@taterunino): It's family illness week at the Tateru household. So, picture me in a nurse's uniform, hustling back and forth, grinding curative skills, and not a lot else. If I get on top of things enough to have a moment to spare before Monday, I'll see about leveling a gunner in Shin Megami Tensei: Imagine Online. I wouldn't bank on having that time, though. Things are crazy.

As for console games, I think almost all of my console catalog are horror games that don't really lend themselves well to MMOG treatments ... with the exception of Shin Megami Tensei, of course, and I've already got that. I'm pretty sure that neither Fatal Frame or Forbidden Siren would work out in the MMOG world.
