WRUP: Sing the praises of beanbag chairs edition

When Ms. Lady and I first bought an enormous television, we decided right off the bat that it was time to redo the living room. The first step, obviously, was getting a television so large it has its own zip code. Our second step was getting rid of the ratty old couch that Ms. Lady had ever since the end of college some eight years ago (I feel old) and replacing it with a set of Sumo beanbag chairs. Attendees of PAX would recognize these chairs. So far, I am liking our slowly changing living room.

But you didn't come here to read about my awesome new living room arrangement (at least, I don't imagine you did). No, this is the time for WRUP, the weekly feature in which the Massively staff shares what it'll be doing over the next couple of days. And as a bonus, we've all shared our secrets about what games we're just no good at but keep playing anyway. So jump on past the break to see what the staff is up to, and let us know what you'll be doing for the weekend in the comments.

Beau Hindman (@Beau_Hindman): I'll be continuing my adventures with Star Trek Online and then moving on to my next Rise and Shiny game. I will also be watching the vote count on my Choose My Adventure, biting my nails the entire time! Who will win?!

I pretty much "suck" at every game. I rarely have high-level characters, do not care if I cause the highest DPS, and prefer exploration and roleplaying to grinding out levels. In fact, a lot of people seem disappointed in me when they play with me — simply because they thought I would be more hardcore, possibly?

Brendan Drain (@nyphur): I've been spending a ridiculous amount of time in World of Warcraft, in which I've been gearing up for the new raids with my two WoW-addicted housemates. I plan to also spend the weekend sorting out the Massively Mob corp hangars in EVE Online.

Brianna Royce (@nbrianna): I'd really like to play some WoW this weekend, but I'm not sure the stars will align for it. We'll see!

Flying starships in Star Wars Galaxies is something I suck at, but I still love to do it and trudged forward to my master pilot badge all the same.

Eliot Lefebvre: I'm hoping to spend some time in Final Fantasy XIV and City of Heroes this weekend, as well as spending some more offline time and relaxing in the new chairs. Yeah.

I know we've had a couple of people respond with Zen-like tales of games in which there's no hope of success, but I have to be totally honest: I have always completely and utterly failed at playing Guild Wars with any sort of skill. I devolve into a twitchy bundle of nerves, I develop pretty terrible character builds, and I'm just plain bad. But I still do like the game.

Jef Reahard: This weekend I'm playing the finish-the-carpentry-project-that's-left-your-office-in-disarray-for-the-last-six-months game. If I manage to beat it, there will be some Global Agenda, Darkfall, and Age of Conan in the mix, probably in that order. Also just updated the Xsyon pre-order beta client, so I'll give that another look-see.

As for the bonus round, I basically suck at all of them. I'm getting better at Global Agenda, though, probably because there's nowhere to go but up (and because I rolled an Assault).

Justin Olivetti
(@Sypster): RIFT RIFT RIFT RIFT RIFT RIFT RIFT RIFT RIFT...

Bonus question: All of them.

Karen Bryan (@JayeRnH): I'll be playing EverQuest II, RIFT, and a certain snow-filled beta.

As for the bonus question: I'm horrible at PvP, but I enjoy playing instanced battlegrounds.

Krystalle Voecks (@Krystalle): Since I'm denied the fun of zooming around in DC Universe Online while SOE readies it for launch, I'll be splitting time between the RIFT beta and playing EVE Online. As for the bonus question, EVE is the one I keep playing despite sucking at it. Its sheer depth combined with my desire to learn all of its intricacies ensures that I'll remain a total noob for many years to come.

Larry Everett (@Shaddoe): Well, I don't have a RIFT beta key nor does DC Universe Online have anything going on right now as it prepares for launch. So I'm not sure what I am going to play this weekend. Maybe I will poke my head into Star Wars Galaxies again or Global Agenda. I did download Star Trek Online, so I could try that out. Any suggestions?

I can't think of a game that I suck at that I play. Not that I don't suck at games. I mean, I really suck at EVE. Great game, but I just don't play it.

Patrick Mackey: A lot of Champions, maybe Cosmic Break, World of Tanks. My girlfriend bought me 80+ games on Steam over the holidays, so I imagine there will be some of that, too. As for the bonus question: probably StarCraft II. I tend to rank in the "regional champion" or "server elite" level in most games I play. StarCraft is the only real noteworthy exception.

At the start of every weekend, we catch up with the Massively staff members and ask them, "What are you playing this week?" (Otherwise known as: WRUP!) Join us to see what we're up to in and out of game — and catch us in the comments to let us know what you're playing, too!
