Killzone 3 to include 'total' PlayStation Home integration

If you happen to wander into PlayStation Home's Central Plaza after this Thursday, January 27, you may not find it as antiseptic and serene as you remember. As part of a Killzone 3 promotion, Sony is going to transform Home's main meeting area into "the last ISA stronghold," wrecked by a Helghast attack. Players can fight back in three "levels" of Home minigames, earning points that can be used to unlock content in the real game's multiplayer mode.

Sony is also adding the somewhat impractical functionality of a Killzone 3 pre-order from Amazon ... from within Home. For the first time, you'll be able to reserve a game from within Sony's virtual world, securing an exclusive jet-pack "costume" for your avatar (are you really asking -- not a chance it actually works!); in addition to Amazon's standard pre-orders bonuses, including more multiplayer points and the "Retro Map Pack" (two maps from Killzone 2 playable in the new game). So, you're supposed to go to the fake Killzone to buy the real one -- is that right?

PlayStation®Home Unveils Total Game Integration with Killzone®3, Featuring Extended Gaming Experiences and Exclusive Content

January 24, 2011 – Sony Computer Entertainment America LLC (SCEA) today announced PlayStation®Home's Total Game Integration on the platform with the soon-to-be-released Killzone®3, providing users with unique opportunities to extend the Killzone 3 experience. Beginning on January 27, the Killzone 3 Total Game Integration will kick off when the Helghast invade and destroy the PlayStation Home Central Plaza, leaving it as the last ISA stronghold. Once in PlayStation Home, users will be able to aid in the ISA evacuation of Helghan by launching into a series of games across three different levels to gain accessories for their PlayStation Home avatar. Completion of all three levels will reward players with Unlock Points, which can be redeemed for new weapons and abilities in Killzone 3 multiplayer.

Additionally, available for the first time in PlayStation Home, users will be able to pre-order Killzone 3 within the platform and will receive the exclusive Helghan jet pack costume for their PlayStation Home avatar as a gift with purchase.

"PlayStation Home has seen tremendous growth in the last year and now features hundreds of games, with more coming all the time," said Jack Buser, director of PlayStation Home, SCEA. "The introduction of Total Game Integration is another huge step forward, allowing Home to directly affect gameplay in your favorite PlayStation 3 titles."

The Killzone 3 pre-orders in PlayStation Home are hosted by Amazon.com and are available until February 24, 2011. In addition to the custom jet pack for their PlayStation Home avatar, users that pre-order through PlayStation Home will also receive the Amazon.com gift with purchase bundle. The bundle features the Unlock and Load Pack, which includes an exclusive PlayStation®Network code for instant access to three Unlock Points to use towards a weapon or ability of choice, as well as the Killzone 3 Retro Map Pack.
