One Shots: A photo postcard
Who says that screenshots aren't just digital photos of our adventures? For today's One Shots, we have an interesting experiment from a real-life shutterbug who decided to try a photo process on his pictures from RIFT. For those who aren't photography fiends, allow me to explain: HDR, also known as High Dynamic Range imaging, is created when you combine a series of pictures together so as to broaden the range of highlight and shadow — usually by taking an underexposed image, an overexposed image, then some in-between shots and merging them into one. By doing this, you are able to create an image that can closely match what your eyes actually see.
Today's contributor, Felipe, decided to try the HDR process with a series of RIFT screenshots so as to convey the tones he saw in a storm that was going on in-game — with lovely results! He explains: "This is a pseudo-HDR shot I made from snapping the same shot at different times while the storm passed through Moonshade Highlands. It's not an optimal result, but given that you can't adjust the exposure in the game, I'm pretty happy with this shot."
Have you snapped a really great image from your travels? Why not send in your own MMO photo postcard to us here at oneshots@massively.com? Be sure to include your name, the name of the game, and a description of what we're seeing in the picture. We'll post it out here and give you the credit for sending it in.
