WRUP: Your house might be on fire edition
It's time to face the facts. Your house could be on fire right this moment, and you wouldn't even necessarily know it. Oh, sure, it might be a small part of your house, but once it reaches your oil-soaked rags lying next to your bonfire supplies and your surplus gunpowder kegs, all bets are off. Check the floor. Is it warm? That might be an indicator of fire. Just to be on the safe side, you should probably carry a squirt gun at all times. That'll fix it.
As long as you're reasonably confident that your house isn't on fire, you can probably take the time to read this week's WRUP, which is remarkably clear of anything remotely related to fire. We here at Massively will let you know about our plans for the weekend as well as our most memorable character deaths, and you can share your plans for the weekend in the comments as well. Sound good? It won't fix that house fire, but it should be fun.
Beau Hindman (@Beau_Hindman): I'll be playing Star Legends for my next Rise and Shiny, so I'll be doing that A LOT. I'm also going to be playing a lot of RuneScape, some Eden Eternal, plenty of Wurm Online sailing. We have set up a merchant and I'm going to be checking him for gold or silver once a week. Man, that's a lot of sailing!
Brandon Felczer (@bfelczer): This weekend I will be spending all of my time inside the Star Trek Online universe. With all of the updates that came to the game last Thursday with the Season 4 launch, there is so much to do and re-learn. Along with this, I will also be attending the Star Trek Online Pride Weekend event that will be held by Stonewall Fleet — I will be auctioned off at their prom for energy credits which will then be donated to the fleet. The lucky winner will have me for two hours to help them respec, run missions or even complete a STF of their choice.
The most memorable character death for me has got to be the first time I was able to successfully kill Donatra in STO's Khitomer Accord STF — the reason it is so memorable is because it took a month to get together a good enough team, with enough DPS, to get past the beginning part of the mission. Since then, I have completed the raid over 30 times.
Brendan Drain (@nyphur): My guild in World of Warcraft has been making some steady progress on the Firelands bosses, so this weekend I think we'll be taking a break. I'll be giving the Rise of Immortals open beta a go, trying to get EVE Online's captain's quarters to stop resetting my GPU and kicking things up a notch with some classic Master of Orion II action!
My most memorable death in EVE Online would have to be the time I was caught mining in a Moros dreadnought in nullsec and promptly blown to pieces. Dreadnoughts were relatively rare back then and I was hot-dropped by a warring alliance's capital fleet. I was actually quite pleased with how long my tank lasted, especially as at the time most players knew me as "the tanking guy" due to my tanking guide in EON Magazine. Every now and then people still ask me in-game if I'm the guy who was caught mining in a dreadnought; I don't think I'll ever live that one down.
Eliot Lefebvre: Aside from putting more time into Warhammer Online, I think I'm going to be sufficiently occupied with apartment hunting and generally taking care of real-life issues to put in some serious play anywhere. Might still wind up with some hours in one of my usual haunts, though.
My most memorable death was probably a bit of a kick in the pants from Final Fantasy XI. I don't remember what level I had finally dinged after a long night of partying, but I do remember the day had been absolutely horrible up until that point... and then it got horrible again when the party broke up and I wound up dying, kicking me back down to the previous level. I think I invented some new swear words.
Jeremy Stratton (@Jeremy_Stratton): I'm going to try to overload my senses by playing way to much this weekend. I went wild with Steam's sales and bought a bunch of adventure games and Recettear. Of course, I'll be playing Runes of Magic, RIFT, Perpetuum and maybe even check out World of Warcraft's unlimited free trial and roll a Worgen(if it lets me). I'm not quite sure what character the question means, but my most memorable character deaths for my characters are always the close calls. Those times when something unexpected yet spectacular happens, like a crazy boss AoE that floors me instantly while glitching into the ceiling.
Matt Daniel (@mvmatt): I'll probably be dipping into Age of Conan to try out the new Blood and Glory server as well as playing some RIFT with Massively Overpowered. Aside from that, I'll just be recovering from whatever wild plague I've managed to catch this time around.
My most memorable character death was in a MUD where I played an assassin. I botched an assassination and ended up on the receiving end of an ambush. It sucked, because it was permadeath, but it was so well-roleplayed and dramatic that I still loved every second of it.
MJ Guthrie: I will be delving into the elite dungeon High School Reunion this weekend! As such, I will actually be totally unplugged (no access and flying coast to coast kinda nixes any gaming ideas).
Afraid I can't single out any single character death for being the most memorable, although I have been witness to some very spectacular ones — including my own — that make me smile, laugh, stare in amazement, or just totally scratch my head. If I didn't have a plane to catch I would start listing...
Patrick Mackey (@mackeypb): I will probably be playing Alpha Protocol, since it was on sale on Steam. I might play some Global Agenda, but I find that doubtful. I will also spend some time in Champions Online doing hideout stuff, since they launched this week, but I doubt I'll be spending a lot of time on that. Most of my time will be doing IRL social stuff.
The most memorable character death for me? If it isn't required to be an MMO, probably Aeris. If it's required to be an MMO... definitely myself.
At the start of every weekend, we catch up with the Massively staff members and ask them, "What are you playing this week?" (Otherwise known as: WRUP!) Join us to see what we're up to in and out of game — and catch us in the comments to let us know what you're playing, too!
